Fun, friendly training for you & your puppy
Puppy Classes in Newmarket
Is a puppy class right for us?
Our puppy class helps puppies build confidence, communication, and essential life skills in a fun and supportive environment. All lessons are fun and social with a nonjudgmental atmosphere.
The puppy training exercises gradually progress from easy to more complex, building on your puppy's understanding and reliability each week.
Puppies are more focused on their human family before they reach puberty (around 6 months of age) which is why we encourage you to bring your puppy to classes as soon as your vet has said it is safe for them to mix with others.
Your puppy should be vaccinated prior to attending classes, and cleared by your vet to mix with other puppies. All puppies should be wormed with a prescription wormer before attending classes, and to reduce the risk of cross-infection, there will be no communal water bowl in class.

At Level 2, we build on those foundations with increased distractions and more challenging exercises to strengthen reliability and confidence.

Reward Based Puppy Training
At Poppy’s Dog School, we use scientifically proven, reward-based training methods that focus on positive reinforcement to shape your puppy’s behaviour.
Positive reinforcement training works because it creates a fun and rewarding learning experience for both you and your puppy. As your relationship grows stronger, your puppy becomes more motivated to learn and train with you, helping progress happen more quickly and effectively. Treats, praise and games are used to encourage puppies to learn.
With positive reinforcement:
-
Your puppy learns what you want them to do
-
Training is clear and consistent
-
Confidence grows naturally
-
Learning becomes enjoyable
-
There is no need for harsh punishments or aversive tools
We believe training should build trust, confidence, and a strong lifelong bond between you and your dog.
What should I bring to class?
We recommend bringing:
-
Plenty of tasty training treats cut into pea sized pieces
-
A 2m lead
-
A comfortable harness or collar
-
Water for your puppy
-
A mat or blanket for settling exercises
